lessons from the half

I ran my first half marathon in Nashville last weekend, and took away a few helpful tips for next time ...

Lesson #1: Take toilet paper with you. There may be tons of port-a-potties, but they ain't got no TP. When desperation sets in, you will use the cardboard roll.

Lesson #2: Look your best, or at least as good as possible. Bad post post-race pictures of you will appear on the Facebook.

Lesson #3: Ask your hotel for a roll-away bed. Two people + one tiny bed = 2 hours of sleep. Not a good idea.

Lesson #4: Use an energy gel at least one time during training if you think you will use one at the race. They are thick and nasty, and you are likely to gag.

Lesson #5: Don't wear your finisher's medal into restaurants after the race. Your friends will be embarrassed. Or you could just do it out of spite, which is fun.

Next stop ... Philadelphia, PA. November 18th. Who's in?
