a very cold day in a very hot place

Finally, finally, FINALLY they have begun work on my bathroom ceiling. It has taken seven months to get them there, but after a nasty letter (with pictures) to the owner of the building, it has been made top priority for the maintenance people. I received a voice mail from the owner last night apologizing profusely for the situation, and promising that our bathroom will soon be "pristine." Right now, however, there is black sludge all over our bathroom from demolition of the moldy ceiling. It could all be in my mind, but it feels like there is a coating of black goo in my lungs.

When this is all over, I'll have to have something else to complain about. If you find yourself with landlord issues and need me to write a nasty letter ... I'd be happy to. I am experienced, after all.

I bet that the mold has made you sick in some way. We had black mold in the dorm at Hanson. You should take a sample of it before they cart it all away and have a specialist test it. Becca's dad tests for those kinds of things in Birmingham.

I remember the mold in Hanson was getting to a ridiculous point the semester after I graduated when my sister lived there and parents were threatening HRL to go to the newspapers, which I wish they had regardless of the school's actions, because I worked for HRL and kids got sick from the mold all the time.

But its good to know that you're going to have a pristine bathroom soon. It sucks that people don't take black mold or tenant complaints and concerns seriously though.

I'm glad they're taking care of the problem. Go, Mandie, Go. I will remember that you are a good threatener if I need some threatening done for me in the future.

all you really have to do is say, "i want my money back" and maybe mention health codes, and they scramble to fix the problem in an attempt to hang on to their precious cash.

There was some dorm at Montevallo that had to be closed down because of the mold. The students were sick ALL of the time. They keep chairs in there now. And tables. But they are also getting sick.

It's kind of discriminatory against the furniture.
