if i dug the ladies ...

... I would dig Brandi Carlile. She is officially my non-sexual female crush.

I went to her show Monday night at Workplay. It was completely sold out, and even though we got there 40 minutes early, there weren't any seats left. But even standing up for three hours in heels didn't ruin the show. I have been wearing out Brandi's albums for the past month or so, and it was so exciting to see her live. She put on a better show than I could've imagined. She is such a great performer - I couldn't stop watching her the whole time she was on stage.

Aside from hearing some of my favorite songs, there were two moments in the show that were absolutely fantastic. They did one song unplugged and even without the mic, her voice was strong and carried throughout the theatre. And the harmonies of the twins (the guitar and bass players) were so tight and good. Amazing. And then they did a Johnny Cash cover of "Folsom Prison Blues" that absolutely blew me away. I was dancing like a fool in the balcony and I didn't care.

I left that show feeling like I did after seeing Sheryl Crow - thinking, "That is one bad-ass rock star." But I think that if Brandi and Sheryl were in a bad-ass rock star showdown, Brandi might win. She's that good. Here's a video for your viewing pleasure ...
